First to bloom, Last to leave

Invited to consider how a work could reflect, respond to and develop alongside the passing of time and the seasons, Christian Kerrigan presents the first of two exhibitions this year.

A series of sculptures that are inspired by the linden – or lime – tree growing outside Siobhan Davies Studios fuse digital technology, scientific methods and organic matter. Kerrigan (former Artist-in-Residence at the Victoria & Albert Museum, 2010) observes the tree’s growth and interaction with its surroundings by using film and sound recordings to document change. In the autumn, Kerrigan will return with Part Two of his exhibition, using these spring recordings and the collection of linden tree seeds and fallen leaves.

Opening times:
Monday – Thursday, 10am – 8pm
Friday – Saturday, 10am – 5pm
Sunday, 10am – 8pm

‘Kerrigan's sculptures use the language of engineering and science to make invigoratingly frank comments on the natural world. They enter into a bold dialogue with the architecture of the Siobhan Davies Studios, adopting their practical, rectilinear metal and wood materials while denying their sterility and permanence.’ Julian Richards, Deputy Digital Editor, New Scientist
